Solid Rock Community Development Corp’s Food Pantry’s goal is to assist in alleviating hunger in SE Colorado Springs by collecting food for distribution through a network of service agencies (Care and Share, Colorado Food Rescue, COSILove YOU and Harrison School District 2) that will support our efforts. The location of SRCDC food pantry will be at Mission Trace Shopping Center
Approximately 20% of SE Colorado Springs residents qualify for assistance from Our client base is low-income people, mainly families, who need emergency help to put food on the table. Nearly half of those served by the food organizations in SE Colorado Springs are children. These families reside in 80910 and 80916.
It is estimated that the number of children who need food services will increase during the next 2-3 years. With employment decreasing, new families will require food assistance. SRCDC’s food pantry will be an important resource to these families because we can respond quickly with the one of the most important resources these families need. Food!
Our services improve the ability of families to care for children and achieve goals of self-sufficiency. A SE Colorado Springs food pantry now is a small investment in comparison to the cost of ignoring the problem of hunger in SE and the influence it has on a number of health and crime issues.
Approximately 12,660 people live within one mile of the Mission Trace Shopping Center and 95,000 are within three miles. The City of Colorado Springs overall has approximately 471,059 people and is growing quickly – experiencing 13% growth since 2010. This growth is being fueled in part by home prices that are below other Front Range metros, the availability of jobs and anchor military institutions that continue to attract families.
